The new version of Viper makes it simple to upload, customise, and review your scans. Follow the steps below to get started.

1. Log in

Go to https://app.scanmyessay.com/ and select Scan from the top menu.

2. Choose your scan type

You can select both AI detection mode and Plagiarism Scan together if you wish - there's no extra cost for running both options at once.

3. Exclude certain sections

You can choose to exclude specific elements of your document to save credits and focus on the main body of text. Available options include:

  • Quotes - text within quotation marks
  • Citations - in-text references
  • References - the bibliography or reference list
  • Table of contents

You can enable or disable any of these options in your Scan Settings. Many users choose to exclude only the table of contents and references, but leave quotes and citations included.

4. Select a sensitivity level

The sensitivity setting controls how detailed your scan will be:

  • High accuracy - identifies even small matches but takes longer to complete.
  • Medium (recommended) - balanced accuracy and speed.
  • Low accuracy - faster scans but only the most relevant results are shown.

5. Use cross-language detection (optional)

If your document was written in another language, you can choose to scan across languages. For example, selecting Spanish to English will translate the Spanish text before checking it against English sources. This uses one extra credit per 250 words for the additional cross-language comparison.

6. Scan against the internal database

You can choose to include the internal database, which contains millions of user-submitted documents. Opting in helps improve the accuracy of scans and contributes to future comparisons.

All documents are securely stored - no personal information is ever visible. If you later decide you'd like your submissions removed, just contact our support team and we'll delete all your uploaded content at no cost.

7. Upload your files

You can upload up to five files at once. If you have trouble uploading (for example, if the file is too large), you can contact us for help.

Once uploaded, click Submit and wait while your scans are processed. Avoid using your browser's back button during the scan.

When the scans finish, go to My Account - My Scans to view your results. Each scan includes a downloadable PDF report.

If you have any questions or run into any issues, our support team will be happy to help.
