The percentage displayed at the top of your plagiarism report is called the overall similarity score. This figure shows the proportion of your document that matches content from at least one other source.
The score is calculated by counting the number of words identified as identical, minor changes, or paraphrased within your document, and comparing that total to the number of words included in the scan.
Each source listed in your report also shows its own similarity percentage, which indicates how much of your document matches that specific source. Results are arranged from the highest to the lowest percentage to make reviewing easier.
If you've chosen to omit certain sections such as quotations or references, those words are excluded from the calculation. This ensures your score only reflects the parts of the document that were actually scanned.
For example, if your document contains 110 words and 10 of them are omitted, the scan will analyse the remaining 100 words. If 50 of those are found to match another source, your overall similarity score will be 50%.
