When setting up your scan, you can choose to exclude certain elements of your document, such as quotations, references, citations, or the table of contents. Doing so helps focus your results on your own written content and may reduce the number of credits used.

You can manage these settings when you go to SCAN and choose your options - turning the relevant omit filters on or off.

  • Quotes – Text enclosed in quotation marks will be ignored during the scan.
  • Citations – In-text references that follow an academic style will be skipped. Example: (Green 47)
  • References – The reference list or bibliography, typically found at the end of a paper, will be excluded. Example: Green, Alice. Modern Ethics in Practice. Horizon Press, 2022.
  • Table of contents – You can choose to exclude your table of contents if you do not want it scanned.

In your Similarity Report, omitted text will appear as its own category under Matched Text and is highlighted in grey.
