Sometimes a section of text can appear in more than one source online. This is completely normal - for example, a passage that has been copied or quoted in several places will produce overlapping matches.

When Viper calculates your overall Similarity Score, it looks at the total unique coverage of your text, not just the number of matches found.

For instance, if you submit a 100-word document and two sources each match 50 words but overlap for 25 of them, the total matched area is 75 words. The overall similarity would therefore be 75%, not 100%.

When your results are displayed, the system highlights each section according to the highest level of similarity found:

  • Identical text takes priority over minor or paraphrased matches.
  • Minor changes take priority over paraphrased text.

This approach ensures that each section of your document is counted only once and shown with the most relevant match type.
